Reading Notes: Mahabharata Part B
Purochana - the wicked captain who was going to burn Kunti and the Pandavas alive
Hidimbi - the mother of Ghatotkacha, the son of Bhima and Hidimbi, the sister of the chieftain king of the rakshasas
Dhrishtadyumna - son of Drupada, born from fire, slated to kill Drona
Draupadi - a dusky woman, slated to be chief of all women, daughter of Drupada, born from fire, destined to be a Pandava queen - ends up being the wife to all 5 of them
The Pandavas are 5 incarnations of Indra
Ulupi - the daughter of the nagas king, who Arjuna has a child with
Chitra - Arjuna's wife, daughter of the king of Manipur, was brought up as a son
Subhadra - Krishna's brother, another wife of Arjuna
Why would Yudhishthira keep going with the gambling? I do not understand. And then to do it all over a second time? I really do not understand.
Other common themes - going into exile, rakshasas and their various guises, cursed woman remaining as objects, adventures, time going by more quickly than it seems
